This Meta AI for age verification system, known as the “adult classifier,” scans user profiles, interactions, and engagement cues, such as birthday messages, to better estimate ages and identify potential underage users. Detected minors under 18 are transitioned to “teen accounts,” which include heightened privacy controls, limiting messaging and content visibility to enhance safety for young users.
Teen users trying to change their age must provide verified identification or use a video selfie authenticated by Meta’s third-party partner, Yoti. This AI-driven verification addresses widespread concerns about protecting younger users’ privacy and safety online.

Political Advertising on Meta: New Requirements for Legitimacy and Compliance
